We know stepping into something new can bring up a lot of questions.
Below you’ll find answers to the questions we hear most often from participants. If something’s still on your mind, please reach out—we’re real people, and we’re here for you.
H.O.O.V.E.S. recognizes that confidentiality is at the heart of all therapeutic and personal growth programs. We make every effort to protect that confidentiality and treat our veterans and families with the dignity and anonymity they deserve. Our staff and volunteers are trained in confidentiality procedures and sign confidentiality agreements.
We use horses of all breeds, sizes, gaits and colors in order to fit each client’s need. Generally, they are older and very experienced in life, which gives our horse partners a calm and patient attitude.
The level of involvement with the horse will always be guided by the client’s comfort level. Fear does not interfere with the effectiveness of the session and many clients find themselves much more comfortable around horses after our workshops. There is never any riding done in this program.
The safety of our participants, volunteers, staff, and horses will always be the top priority during our programs. Our staff and volunteers are experienced and trained in safety and emergency procedures. However, horses are still animals with wills and minds of their own; they can be unpredictable. Every effort is made to minimize any effect of this unpredictability during workshops and sessions.
The program is ALWAYS provided at no cost to veterans.
Sturdy, closed toed shoes that will not slip off your feet and long pants are best, even during the summer months. Think camping or outdoor wear. Sandals of any kind are not allowed. Remember, you will be outdoors, in a barn, and around animals.
